 The goal of the Maine Center of Excellence (COE) for Innovative Systems and Practice in Behavioral Health is to increase the capacity and quality of behavioral health provided throughout the State of Maine.   As part of this effort, the COE is developing the expertise and capacity to support Family and Youth Peer Support.  Public Consulting Group serves as the Provider for the COE and is seeking to fill the position of Youth Peer Support Specialist Local Coach. 

 

The Youth Peer Support Local Coach (YPS-LC) is a member of a team of professionals that support and educate youth peer support specialists in the local provider community.  The YPS-LC will train and coach youth peer support specialist (YPSs) to provide intentional, authentic support to children and youth with emotional, physical, behavioral, and/or mental health challenges, aiding them in their journey toward self-advocacy in the attainment of their own, culturally specific life goals for themselves and their family. 

 

·       Complete Youth MOVE National Peer Connect training and attend ongoing training within required timeframes.

·       Complete train-the-trainer training and participate in annual certification.

·       Facilitate training and ongoing professional development sessions for Youth Peer Support Specialists in the local provider community. 

·       Respond to assigned requests for technical assistance and consultation in a timely manner.

·       Support/facilitate the inclusion of youth voice within organizational practice and procedures are youth driven.

·       Complete monthly data entry by providing location/attendance of support groups/workshops and contacts.

·       Represent the agency to the community in a professional manner.

·       Assure confidentiality and the rights of families as outlined in the agency’s standards, policies, and procedures. 

 

 

 

 

Required Skills

  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal staff, community resources and stakeholders.
  • Must be able to engage and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate active listening skills and validate experiences of others, using person-first and strength-based language.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfort with virtual convening’s and building of relationships online.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, virtual technology, and other online data entry tools.
  • Presentation, facilitation, and/or training experience is preferred.

 

Education

 

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Experience

  • Relevant lived and/or porfessional experience within the System of Care (Mental/Behavioral Health, Child Welfare, or Juvenile Justice) and  for the benefit and healing of others.
  • Experience as a Youth Peer Support Specialist is preferred.

 

Certification

  • Certification will occur during the course of employment

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Travel time is approximately 50 percent.
  • The position will allow for a remote workplace. The position requires flexible hours including travel which will require overnight stays and local state travel.
